Cruise to Brook BBQ May 30, 2015

Hello Again Everyone,

Well if you missed yesterday, you missed one GREAT time! Even though initially we were really only 1 hr. and 5 min. from our destination, we literally OWNED Route 7 West for all of 2 hours!!

That's right, 5 minutes in to the westbound trip, "everything rural" was the norm. Tractors and heavy equipment everywhere, big gaps between properties etc., but yesterday, it was all about us! ECGTO's COMIN' THRU!

Quite a few of the participants make me EC"GTO"-INACCURATE, for yesterday we were more like EC"PONTIAC" with the likes of Mike and Andrea's Formula, Cathie and Rich's Sunbird, Dave Jr.'s Tempest Wagon (AKA KING COOL) Tommie and Donna's Firebird, and............

Steve and Sherri's Corvair initially. Corvair you say? YES, there was a threat of rain all week so Steve's GTO was never leaving the stable!!

35 minutes into the drive, a rendezvous for our western based participants who met us at the Park And Ride in Schoharie...3 more cruisers, Jim's 60 Ventura, and Eddie's Firehawk were the non-GTO's...BUT WE WERE STILL THE ELECTRIC CITY GTO CLUB and we were "cruizin' thru" their towns!

17 cars at a majestic pace, but our exhausts were sounding not quite as demure! The occasional "Greg Dubrule Burnout" in his new hot-engined '72 GTO kept everyone awake! We had rubber-neckers, thumbs uppers, waivers and jumpers, starers, standing at attention-neers, clappers, and horn-blowers EVERYWHERE!!

We shook up one garage sale that had a 442 out front to where they all stood up and started waiving! WHAT A RIDE! I lead the other 16 cars with President Keil pulling up the rear (no additional jokes on that one please:).

No traffic to speak of, slightly overcast at first then not overly sunny, not overly hot either, with a nice breeze, but most importantly, NO RAIN AT ALL!!! Although some said later on their return rides they had PRECIP, I saw nothing til 9PM and by then I was with friends at my local watering hole.

Our officially appointed by executive order temporary but incumbent returning fantastic and talented cruise on the road while hanging out of doors and windows club photographer was present once again! Sorry, it's not Joe, rather it's Tammy Walters and I can't even begin to explain...You simply have to be there while her husband Scott is weaving the Judge all over hell to get shots and she's in the back seat, front seat, top of the seats, no seat...oh my!

Wait til we publish her many shots from this cruise, on a short stretch of I-88...Master Photographer's GREAT IDEA...AND it gave Greg and I a chance to run-off our two new GTO's for this year!! I don't know who the heck won 'cause I was laughin' so hard!! Thanks Lisa for being a good sport. I couldn't even hear my wife yelling at me while we were dragging, CAUSE I WAS ALONE! Ahhhhhhh. Tranquility.

12:05 PM, Oneonta, NY, our 17 cars met 2 more of our own members at our BROOKS BBQ Destination!! Not only was John Brooks' awesome '64 there as expected, BUT so was Kevin Kraft's "freshly driven out the body shop only 1 hour before arrival" '65 GTO wearing its new skin of PALMETTO GREEN.

John had graciously given everyone a secret password for free ice cream. I was gonna see if it was for "free AND unlimited" ice cream, but I never got the chance cause I was talking and looking at all of our beautiful cars :) I know, I know, save it, "You don't need it anyway Dave"...Blah, Blah, Blah.

Great meal inside the restaurant with a great salad bar and Air Conditioning! Definitely worth a day trip with the family. A hearty Thank You to both John and Joan Brooks as well as Ryan Brooks with the rest of the restaurant staff for hosting the event. Our cars were safe and sound with Joan "Guard-Dogging" them outside while John came inside with us.

Tribute to Dave Jr. on his 28th birthday...We're still trying to find out who told the whole restaurant to sing Happy Birthday to him!! His face was a pretty shade of red, very comparable to Dave Keil's car!!

John Brooks bought the club a banner that WELCOMED ECGTO's TO BROOKS BBQ!! It's "A SIGN". And It's also a good sign, it's generically versatile, durable and reusable, and that means we're going back soon I hope! Damn, if I keep doing this food stuff, I'll be fat!

By about 3PM nearly everyone was heading out to do their own thing as some had other engagements, obligations and personal venues etc. We virtually all broke up, and a few of us headed "TO" Cooperstown (as I thought we planned?) while others "BLEW THRU" Cooperstown homeward bound...Haha.

YOU SHOULD HAVE STAYED WITH ME!! A slight communication issue.

Greg, Lisa and I took in some old the chilling liquid culture of the quaint historic downtown area of Cooperstown then headed out the east-shore road, while some of us had already navigated the west-shore of Otsego Lake, then we proceeded to visit a good friend for a bit more quality time away. Ultimately aiming to my aforementioned local watering-hole (Recovery Room Rotterdam) after a hour plus long trek back Route 20 with The Dubrules!

In bed at 10:30. Way too pooped to have written this then :-) I LOVE THIS STUFF.

CAN WE DO THIS AGAIN IN A FEW WEEKS? Great Cars, great weather, great friends, great food, great fun!!
